Kuang-hsü gold Proof Pattern Restrike "Kuping" Mace Year 29 (1903)-Dated PR66 NGC, L&M-1021, cf. Kann-930 (for original silver issue), WS-0004, Wenchao-Unl., Chang Foundation-Unl. Plain edge. A sparkling gem representative of this modern restrike issue, fielding ample mint "flash" that surrounds features produced to exacting precision. Despite its status as a later production, the type--struck from the original Osaka mint dies in Switzerland in the 1970s--is both rare and coveted by collectors, seeing significant attention when (infrequently) located at auction.
