Qing Dynasty. Shaanxi Caoding ("Trough") Sycee of 4 Taels ND (c. 19th Century) Good XF, cf. Cribb-Class XLII.G, Tai, Sycee Online, Sas4-6/38. 43x36mm. 133.73gm. Stamped in two columns, the right reading: "Feng Xiang" (county name), and the left reading: "Li Yun" (smith name). A rather intriguing, and quite attractive, selection, as, though Feng Xian is a district of Baoji city in Shaanxi, suggesting this issue should be placed under Cribb's class XLII, none of his subgroups have 4 characters struck by two separate stamps. Tai illustrates a similar piece on his website, which he suggests, from the nature of the stamps, is among the early issues of the type. This lot can be submitted to Gong Bo Grading for certification after the auction at the buyer's request. If you would like to exploit this option, please contact HK@HA.com.
