Japan Bank of Japan 200 Yen ND (1927) Pick 37Bs Specimen PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45. A 20th century rarity, this type note is desirable in any grade, and in any format. Created hastily as an emergency issue in response to the devastating earthquake of 1923 and subsequent economic collapse of 1927, notes of this type are virtually unseen today. Two denominations were created, the 50 Yen and 200 Yen. Both were rushed into circulation only to have issuance stopped two days later. Those notes that did make it into circulation were actively redeemed, leaving only a scant few extant. This Specimen is representative of the ill-fated 200 Yen. The simplistic uniface design is still bold and fresh, with the red overprints and hole punched cancellations customary for Specimen of the era. A minor paper pull and two POCs are noted.
