China Banque Industrielle de Chine, Swatow 10 Dollars 1.10.1915 Pick S397Fa S/M#C254-3d PMG Choice Very Fine 35. In the early 20th century, Chinese port cities were bustling, as trade between the East and West continuously increased. Coins and notes from a variety of nations, colonies, and issuers circulated freely at the time, with Mexican silver pesos being a local favorite. The French Banque Industrielle de Chine was operating in Swatow, and overprinted notes in Mexican dollars to allow for an easy convertibility to silver. Extant notes are quite rare, and especially so in pleasing collector grade. This offered example is bright and fresh, with bold overprints. Historic, rare, and visually appealing.
