Elizabeth II Pair of Mint Errors - Reverse Die Cap & Brockage Mated Pair gold Proof 100 Dollars 1985 Deep Cameo PCGS, 1) 100 Dollars - PR69 (#1 of 2) 2) 100 Dollars - PR67 (#2 of 2) An intriguing and extremely scarce pair of mated die cap errors, resulting from a rare occurrence in which both dies were capped at the same time and struck one another, imparting an impression of each coin onto the other. Given the inclusion of two separate planchets in the error process, mated die caps are exceedingly difficult to locate, yet both examples resulting from this process are kept together here, preserved in a pristine Mint State condition and nearly undisturbed by handling or contact. It is clear in examining the two components of this singular event that coin number 1 saw repeated striking, which gradually expanded the planchet well beyond its initial intended size, leaving its diameter around 34mm-- much larger than the approximately 27mm size of the intended format. A truly unique opportunity for the dedicated error collector, and the first such occurrence that we have seen for this apparently error-prone issue.
