Pedro I 80 Reis 1824-R AU Details (Plugged) NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM372, LMB-491. The first of only two dates that this denomination was minted in silver, and only the second such example that we have offered, the last appearing in our sale of the Paulistana Collection in 2010. Interestingly, while Bentes only lists two varieties for this date, with 28 and 29 tulips in the obverse wreath, respectively, this piece appears to have 31 tulips. Evenly toned to a subdued zinc color, and quite crisply struck.
