Description
João Prince Regent Counterstamped 80 Reis ND (1809) VF25 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM294, LMB-251. Displaying shield counterstamp (VF Weak) on a Jose I 75 Reis 1755-R (cf. KM176.2). The first example of this host date for the countermark we have encountered, and one that was notably missing from the Paulistana Collection. Livro das Moedas do Brasil records that this is the second rarest of only three host dates from the Rio de Janeiro mint.
