MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (17mm, 8.61 gm, 2h). NGC Choice AU S 5/5 - 5/5. Late lifetime-early posthumous issue of 'Amphipolis', ca. 325-319 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in five tight corkscrew curls, two more curls behind, three more curls over left shoulder, wearing necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet with long divergent crest ends pushed back on head, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Nike standing left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; cantharus in left field. Price 168. Well struck and centered on lustrous flan.
