Description

Batthyani. Prince Ludwig Taler 1788 MS64 NGC, Vienna mint, KM8, Dav-1184. A caliber of numismatic quality that is a far cry for most coins of the period, the surfaces, aged to an iconic gunmetal-plumb, reveal a halo of golden backlight that serves to provide an almost Prooflike finish to the piece. From all angles expressing the appearance of a finer coin, we can only surmise that some minor cabinet rub on the highpoints of the reverse account for its just-shy-of-gem grade. Ex. Millennia Collection (Goldberg Auction 46B, May 2008, Lot 494); Irving Goodman Collection (Goldberg Auction 15, June 2002, Lot 129)
