Description

East Africa East African Currency Board 1000 Shillings = 50 Pounds 15.12.1921 Pick 18 PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45. Representing the highest degree of rarity, this spectacular note was issued by the East African Currency Board while still headquartered in Mombasa. Before Nairobi became the sprawling metropolis it is today, Mombasa was the financial and trading hub of East Africa. The buying power of this denomination could have proved useful in the largest of transactions, which could have included land or raw materials. Nevertheless, very few were printed and issued, and only a select few have escaped the redemption process. Only limited circulation is seen on this example, which features the first prefix and serial number 00024. Lightened storage stains are mentioned for accuracy on this otherwise outstanding example. The clear highlight of this auction and a remarkable opportunity to acquire a key note across multiple collector fields: British Commonwealth, King George V Portrait, and Africa as a whole. Not to be missed, especially considering the opening bid of $1.00.
