Description

George IV gold Proof Pattern Sovereign 1825 PR62 Cameo PCGS, KM696, S-3801, W&R-235 (R5). Plain edge. By William Wyon after Chantrey, reverse by Jean-Baptiste Merlen. Instantly impressive and extremely fleeting as a type, this Proof sovereign type expresses a wonderful clarity to the design elements, the surfaces a rich honey-gold bathed in ample mint flash. While some light chatter is all that precludes a choice designation, this is easily outbalanced by a think layer of die polish over the coin's expanses, verifying its exceptional quality and masterful production.
