La Rioja. Provincial gold 2 Escudos 1842-R MS63 NGC, La Rioja mint, KM13, Janson-53. An incredibly handsome specimen for this usually unattainable type at the choice level, and presently one of only 3 examples to be so graded between NGC and PCGS combined. Struck only in this year in honor of general and military dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas, the surfaces appear remarkably clean and lustrous for the issue, only the most minor of weakness visible on the reverse high points, and this quickly fading as one moves to the margins and obverse motifs.
