C. Marius C.f. Capito (ca. 81 BC) AR denarius serratus (20mm, 10h). NGC Choice Fine, bankers marks. Rome. CAPIT•, draped bust of Ceres right, seen from front, wreathed in grain, wearing pendant earring; CI above, knife below chin / C•MARI•C•F / S•C, husbandman standing left, plowing with pair of yoked oxen; CI above. Crawford 378/1c. Sydenham 744b. Maria 9. From the Bacchus Collection Although the moneyer is otherwise unknown, his cognomen emphasizes the absence of connection with C. Marius of Arpinum. The reverse appears to simply be a connection with Ceres on the obverse, as opposed to a foundation or enlargement issue of a city or region.
