People's Republic gold Proof "Liu Hai" 5 Ounce Medal ND (1989), KM-XMB40. 60mm. Mintage: 300. A very scarce issue portraying the legend of the god of wealth Liu Hai baiting the three-legged toad with gold coins. This is only the second example of this commemorative we have handled, that last piece appearing in 2016, with apparently none coming to auction in the meantime according to our research. Sealed in mint capsule and original vinyl packaging, with the case of issue and COA #254. We note that any distortion in the photos is the result of photographing the medal through the vinyl packaging, and that the reddish splotch on the reverse is actually marker on the vinyl, not on the medal itself.
