French Colony copper-nickel Specimen Piefort Essai Franc 1897 SP65 PCGS, Paris mint, KM-PE2, VG-4311, Lec-9. An unusually fine example of this rare pattern composed of maillechort, an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc, and issued as a proposed type for this small French Caribbean island territory. The present piece appears to contain a metallic composition with a preponderance of copper in particular, with a gentle autumnal orange tone throughout.
