Description

Edward VII 4-Piece Certified gold Matte Proof Set 1902 Proof Details (Cleaned) NGC, 1) 1/2 Sovereign, KM804, S-3974 2) Sovereign, KM805, S-3962 3) 2 Pounds, KM806, S-3968 4) 5 Pounds, KM807, S-3966A A famous coronation Proof set, and one that frequently sees relatively conservative assigned grades. The only coronation issues explicitly produced in matte finish--this finish subsequently used only for special photographic purposes--the 1902 issues frequently feature swirling raised hairlines in the fields as a consequence of the sandblasting process used to produce the dies, a quality often mistaken for prior handling or an 'imperfection.' While the coins seen here do admittedly show light cleaning hairlines, they continue to exhibit resolute strikes with an overall attractive matte finish. Frequently out of reach for most collectors, the present offering affords the opportunity for even the price conscientious to acquire an example, which additionally comes with its original black padded case of issue.
