Description

Republic gold "Hookneck" 8 Escudos 1823 Mo-JM AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM382.1, Fr-63, Onza-1994. Type 1; Snake's Tail Curved, Cap Points to "A" variety. The first Republican gold issue of Mexico, and a widely contested and desirable one-year type. Evenly centered and graced with a consistent and clear strike that leaves no larger areas of discernible weakness, this early 8 Escudos, struck by the recently declared Republic, shows only light evidence of circulation, leaving ample visual detail for appreciation. A well-defined rim leaves a pleasing visual border to enhance the presentation of the central designs.
