Description

Leopold I gold Proof 25 Francs 1848 PR62 NGC, Brussels mint, KM13.1 (unlisted in Proof), Dupriez-366 (R3). Edge inscription: DIEU PROTEGE LA BELGIQUE. By Wiener. An exceptional rarity in Proof condition and virtually never encountered in this format. Though NGC does not provide population data for the issue, it remains the only example in Proof which we are aware of, and is likely also the only example certified to-date, with Maison Palombo similarly suggesting in its previous offering of this lot in 2015 that the coin may even be unique. Masterfully sculpted devices and shimmering reflectivity in the fields leave little doubt as to its special format, with a cameo effect to the reverse adding further allure and charm. In all regards a special offering, and likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our bidders.
