Republic. Shanxi Jingbao ("Mirror") Sycee of 50 Taels ND (c. 1912-1948) Certified UNC+ by HuaXia, Cribb-Unl. (cf. Class I.A.), cf. Tai, Sycee Online, Ss50/6, Ss50/10 (for other Republican period ingots of this type). 105x65mm. 1884gm. Stamped in two columns, the right reading: "Min Guo Nian Yue" (The Republic of China Year Month), and the left reading: "Ku Se" (Appraisal of the Bureau for the Fineness and Weight of Silver), and "Tian Yi" (smith name). A handsomely produced and sturdy ingot, the stamps all boldly cut with a distinctive round-globular border around the left characters. Interestingly, Cribb only records Shanxi Jingbao from the reigns of Daoguang to Xuantong, with no Republican-period 50 Taels of the type present in the British Museum Collection, though Tai's website displays images of two, admittedly different, specimens from the Republican era.
