Japan Bank of Japan 1000 Yen ND (1945) Pick 45a PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Representing substantial buying power in the months following the Japanese surrender, this banknote is today quite rare as the sheer face value prevented most from being saved for posterity. The Japanese economy was decimated after World War II, leaving this denomination out of reach for most people still adjusting to the newfound economic situation. In fact, this denomination, as well as the others in this series, were withdrawn only a few months after issue, leaving the vast majority either unissued or quickly redeemed for new currency in more manageable denominations. Simply a beautiful banknote, rarely seen in this grade, only mount remnants prevent a higher score on this otherwise prized example.
