Hong Kong Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation 100 Dollars 1.7.1937 Pick 176d KNB65d-e Duress Note PMG Very Fine 30 EPQ. This large format, high denomination type was prepared by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company for issue in 1937, but remained in bank vaults until the onset of World War II in the Pacific. Once the Japanese took control of Hong Kong away from the British, troops forcibly extracted banknotes from the HSBC vaults and issued them to facilitate commerce. For the $100 denomination, notes dated 1934 & 1937 were issued, within the serial number range of B485,001 to B650,000. This handsigned banknote was issued by the Japanese during World War II and is very scarce today, and especially so with EPQ status. Historic and important.
