China Yokohama Specie Bank Limited, Dairen 5 Gold Yen ND (1916) Pick UNL S/M#H31 PMG Very Fine 25. A handsome, rarely seen denomination from the first series of banknotes issued by this Japanese bank operating in China. Darien, now called Dalian, has a long history as an international port city, with Russia and Japan having extensive operations there at the turn of the 20th century. This rarely seen type, not included in the Standard Catalog of Specialized Issues, has all its details legible, and only shows minor margin splits. Desirable in any grade, this note is an important relic from early 20th century economic history.
