Phocas (AD 602-610). AV solidus (22mm, 4.45 gm, 6h). NGC Choice AU 2/5 - 3/5, graffito, clipped, flip over double strike. Constantinople, 8th officina, AD 607-609. d N FOCAS-PЄRP AVG, crowned, draped and cuirassed bust of Phocas facing, globus cruciger in right hand / VICTORIA-AVϚЧ H, Angel standing facing, long staff terminating in staurogram in right hand, globus cruciger in left; CONOB in exergue. Sear 620. A dramatic error rarely seen on Byzantine solidi. The notation of clipped on the holder is accurate, but represents trimming at the mint to bring the flan within spec as it is correct for a regular full weight solidus.
