British Guiana Government of British Guiana 1 Dollar 1.1.1920 Pick 1A PMG Very Fine 30. A handsome and extremely rare type, with only 500,000 banknotes printed for this date. Only a few examples have survived to be collected today. This example is the second finest graded in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging. Interestingly, the Government of British Guiana was authorized to print $1 and $2 banknotes. Private banks issued the higher denominations. We have not offered this type in the past, and only a handful of low grade examples have crossed the auction block in the last decade. The portrait series from 1929 to 1942 is enormously popular, but these earlier types are exceedingly difficult to find. This specific banknote has a strong pedigree within the hobby and is worthy of a strong bid, considering its rarity, past ownership, and remarkable condition. From The Drs.
