Phocas (AD 602-610). AV solidus (21mm, 4.29 gm, 7h). AU, clipped. Constantinople, 5th officina, AD 607-609. d N FOCAS-PЄRP AVG, crowned, draped and cuirassed bust of Phocas facing, globus cruciger in right hand / VICTORIA-AVCN Є (N retrograde), angel standing facing, long staff terminating in staurogram in right hand, globus cruciger in left; CONOB in exergue. Sear 620. Note - the portrait is exceptionally well executed and in the style of Constantinople, but the blundering of the reverse legend begs the question as to whether this is a contemporary imitation or a product of an uncertain Balkan mint.
