1869 $3 Gold. PCGS AU50
1869. PCGS graded AU-50. Well struck with attractive golden-orange toning about the peripheries. Struck during the year of the great gold corner where speculators tried to corner the gold market in 1869, their plot failed as the government released more gold into the market than they could afford to buy up at premium prices. The plot of Fisk and Gould came to an abrupt end, but their historic run at gold remains a point of much study to this day. A mere 2500 struck. (PCGS # 7990) Estimated Value $2,000 - UP
