Basiliscus and Marcus, ca. late summer AD 475 to Aug. 476. Gold Solidus (4.06g). Mint of Constantinople. Helmeted and cuir. bust of Basiliscus three-quarter facing r., holding spear and shield. Reverse: SALVSREI PVBLLICAE. Basiliscus on l. and Marcus enthroned facing side by side, both nimbate and each holding mappa and globe, cross surmounted by star in upper central field, CON OB in ex. S-21497; DOC 621. Very Rare. Lightly toned with some reddish residue resting in the protected areas. NGC graded AU; Strike: 4/5, Surface: 3/5 clipped . Estimated Value $2,000 - UP
