Paying this poll tax was a prerequisite for voting in the biennial Zionist Congress, which was founded by Theodor Herzl, in 1897. This impressive lot Includes "Schekel" issued in Germany in 1920, an unissued Shekel with receipt attached (dated 192_), large "Golden Shekel" issued in London in 1924, and a Schekel issued in Germany in 1933 ? the year that Hitler came to power.
