Attica, Athens. Silver Tetradrachm (16.94 g), ca. 510-500/490 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing crested helmet decorated with small spiral, and wearing round earring. Reverse: AΘE, owl standing right, head facing; in upper left field, olive spray with berry; all within incuse square. Seltman grp. L (unlisted dies); Svoronos pl. 8, 8-13; HGC 4, 1589. Fantastic early archaic style and perfectly centered on a nice, broad medallic flan! The obverse struck from a somewhat worn die, the reverse is quite bold and strong. Uniform light grey toning.
