Attica. Athens, 131-130 BC. ‘New Style’ Coinage. AR Tetradrachm (30.1 mm, 16.89 g.). Antiochos, Nikog-, and Antilochos, magistrates. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right. Rev. AΘE, Owl, with head facing, standing right on overturned amphora; three magistrates’ names in fields: ANTI - OXOΣ / NIKOΓ / ANTI / ΛOX; to right, elephant standing right; on amphora, B, below ΣΩ; all within laurel wreath. HGC 4, 1602; Thompson 396b; SNG Copenhagen 212-213. An impressive example struck on a broad flan, an awesome contrast of dark and yellowish iridescent tone, about extremely fine.
