Judaea, The Hasmoneans, Alexander Jannaeus, 103 - 76 BC
AE Lepton, Jerusalem Mint, 17mm, 0.62 grams
Obverse: eight rayed star within diadem.
Reverse: Anchor.
Hendin 1150 An interesting example which shows the often poor quality control within the mint during this period. The ovberse is struck weakly and off center, renering a virtually blank surface. The planchet was only partially finished leaving casting spues on both sides. A fascinating example showing minting methodology.
