AE Western Asiatic harness-fitting (6th century BC)
Bronze plaque in low relief showing a recumbent goat or ibex facing right with head turned back. Two loop-fasteners are mounted on the back, which is flat.
Cf. Curtis & Kruszynski 2002. Ancient Caucasian and Related Material in The British Museum, no. 186, fig. 45, pl. 18.
It has showned that the motif and style of the recumbent goats on these plaques are closely connected with Scythian art, although they are not Scythian products (Amandry 1965. Un motif "Scythe" en Iran et Grèce, p. 153, no. 8).
Weight: 43.28 g.
Diameter: 37.12 mm.
