POËTË ET COMEDIEN M. 1673. Medalier: Jean Dassier. Jean-Baptiste Poquelin de Molière was an actor and playwright.Jean Dassier's "Hommes illustres du siècle de Louis XIV" is a notable series of medals created between 1723 and 1724. This series features celebrated personalities from the reign of Louis XIV, including philosophers, scientists, statesmen, and military leaders. These medals are recognized for their detailed portraiture and serve as a tribute to the influential figures of the 17th century French court and intellectual circles. Jean Dassier was an esteemed 18th-century medallist from Geneva, renowned for his artistic medals depicting famous historical figures and events. His craftsmanship and style significantly influenced the art of medal making. His legacy was continued by his son, Jacques-Antoine Dassier, who furthered his father's artistic heritage by engraving dies for coins and medals in Russia, thereby making substantial contributions to Russian numismatic art.
