ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Wessex. Æthelstan. 924-939. AR Penny (22mm, 1.20 g, 12h). Bust Crowned (BC) type (BMC viii). Canterbury mint; Ælfric, moneyer. + ÆÐELSTΛN REX, crowned, helmeted, draped bust right / + ÆLFRIC · MO · DOR · CIVI ·, small cross pattée. Blunt, Aethelstan 262; SCBI 34 (BM), 123 (same obv. die); North 675; SCBC 1095. Lightly toned. Near EF. Very rare issue for this mint.
