Description

INDIA, Gupta Empire. First Dynasty. Kumaragupta I Mahendraditya. Circa AD 413-455. AV Bracteate 12 Rattis (20.5mm, 1.27 g, 12h). Feudatory issue. Uncertain mint in Kosala. Garuda bird facing, flanked by chakra and sankh shell; crescent to left of head; below, śri mahendraditya in box-head script Brahmi above rosette and to in Brahmi / Incuse of obverse. Kumar –; ATEC II, p. 1234; MNI –; CNG 81, lot 740. Traces of deposits. Near EF. Very rare.
