Danebury Scrolls Left. Sills dies 2/3. c.60-50 BC. Gold quarter stater. 13mm. 1.19g. Eight scrolls around central pellet in cogwheel./ Horse left, spoked wheel above, ringed-pellet in front, floral sun below. ABC 791, VA−, BMC 539, DK 273, S−. CCI 08.9741 (this coin). Good VF/VF, rose gold, clear floral sun and spoked sun-wheel. Ex John Follows collection, ex Chris Fox collection. Found near Winchester, 2006. EXTREMELY RARE only 13 others recorded, including two in museums.

The sun power of Apollo-Belenus is dramatically portrayed here by a distinctive, swirling, flaming solar motif, apparently composed of the sun-god’s hair curls. Published in Divided Kingdoms, pp.236 and 255 (this coin). Not in VA nor Spink.
