KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great' (336-323 BC). AR, Tetradrachm. Rhodes. Timaios, magistrate. Circa 201-190 BC.
Obv: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck.
Rev: AΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ.
Zeus Aëtophoros seated left with eagle and sceptre; in left field, magistrate's name: TIMAIOΣ above rose.
Finest specimen known with an attractive and perfectly centered strike. Extremely rare, possibly the second known, with in British Museum collection. GC30 (BMC Greek (Alexander the Great)) (2526).
