GORDIAN III. (238-244 AD). AR, Denarius. Rome.
Obv: IMP C M ANT GORDIANVS AVG.
Bust of Gordian III; laureate, draped and cuirassed, right.
Rev: VICTO-RIA AVG.
Victory draped; advancing left, holding wreath and palm.
RIC III, 13; BMC, 1990,1228.1; Gemini LLC Au II, lot 504.
It is one of the rare denars with the laureate head of Gordian III. Antoninius was printed in the 3rd century, when the crisis continued. But this coin in which Victoria is seen makes it a rarer denar.
