Great Britain, William III, 1694-1702. AV ‘Fine Work’ 5 Guineas, 1701, London mint, plain sceptres variety, 2nd laureate bust, ‘DECIMO TERTIO’ (=Year 1701) on edge, by John Croker, 37mm. GVLIELMVS· III·DEI·GRA·, second laureate bust of King William III right, legend around. MAG BR·FRA ET·HIB REX·17 01·, crowned cruciform shields around central Nassau lion with sceptres bearing national emblems in angles, divided date above, legend around (KM508; S-3456; Fr. 310).
A mesmerizing portrait of great power and beauty combined with sharp remaining details, underlying lustre and great eye appeal make this piece truly attractive. For the sake of accuracy, minor scratch on reverse.
