★ A Modern Greek Gold Rarity ★
Greece, King George I, 1863-1913. AV 50 Drachmai, 1876A, Paris mint, Barre, mintage 182. ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α! ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ, bare head right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ, 50 ΔΡΑXΜΑΙ, crowned coat-of-arms, bee and anchor on either side (KM50; Divo 45; IV14; Fr. 14).
A remarkable coin missing from from the majority of modern Greek collections with only 182 minted. Exceptional quality and strong details.
Graded Altered Surfaces NGC, which is possibly due to cleaning and re-toning on the obverse as our experienced numismatists are unable to spot any other reason under magnification. This observation also falls in line with NGC’s designation. A remarkable and choice mint state example nevertheless.
