Egypt. Alexandria. Severus Alexander, 222-235. Tetradrachm (Billon, 23.3 mm, 12.45 g). Dated RY 8 (= 228/9). A KAI MAP AVP CEVHP AΛΕΞΑΔPOC EY[CEB] Laureate and cuirassed bust right. Rev. Bust of Nilus right, crowned with lotus and wearing taenia, slight drapery; cornucopia behind his right shoulder; L H (date) to right. Geissen –. Dattari 4329 (this coin) & 9927. RPC VI online, 10392. Emmett 3122. Dark gray patina with silvered highlights. Good Very Fine. Very Rare.

Gorgeous tetradrachm of the eighth year of Alexander Severus from the Dattari Collection. Great care was taken in the style and engraving on both sides of the coin, with a plastic effect regarding Severus and the majestic bust of the Nile on the reverse. Dazzling original grey 'London smoke' patina.
