Excellent drachm with a splendid, plastic bust of Marcus Aurelius in his fourth year in power (163-164 AD) on the obverse. The reverse depicts Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn, corresponding to the Roman deity of Aurora, running brandishing a torch, beside a galloping horse held by her with the reins. It is here a glorious demonstration of Roman sovereignty in the East (Vogt p. 138). One of the very few known specimens that RPC IV.4 2756 cites and illustrates in no. 7.
