Description

Continental Greece. Attica, Athens. AR Tetradrachm. New Style coinage. Herakleides, Eukles(i)–, and Dionyso(s), magistrates. Struck 105/4 BC. Obv. Head of Athena Parthenos right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with the protomes of four horses above the visor, a Pegasos in flight rightward above the raised earpiece. Rev. Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; A-ӨE above, HPA-KΛE/ΔHΣ/ EYK/ΛHΣ/ ΔIOΝY/ΣΟ (magistrates’ names) in six lines across field; in right field, winged Tyche standing left, holding uncertain object over amphora and cradling cornucopia; B on amphora, ΣΩ below; all within wreath. HGC 4 1602; Thompson 750. AR. 16.50 g. 31.00 mm. Darkly toned. Good VF.
