Greek Italy. Southern Apulia, Tarentum. AR Diobol, c. 380-325 BC. Obv. Helmeted head of Athena right, helmet decorated with hippocamp. Rev. TA. Herakles standing right, strangling Nemean Lion; club to right, K between Herakles’ legs. HN Italy 914; Vlasto 1270 (same obv. die); SNG ANS 1372. AR. 1.15 g. 12.50 mm. Choice example. Pleasant old cabinet tone, underlying luster. From masterly engraved dies; weak strike at high point of reverse. EF/About EF.
