Description

Greek Italy. Central and Southern Campania, Neapolis. AR Didrachm, c. 420-400 BC. Obv. Head of nymph right; below, Scylla. Rev. Man-headed bull standing right, head facing, crowned by Nike; two leaves with berry below; in exergue, ΝΕΟΛΙΤHO. HN Italy -; HGC 1 -; Cf. SNG ANS 280/2 (for obv.); SNG BN 659; Graziano 51. AR. 7.35 g. 22.00 mm. RRR. Very rare: only two specimens cited by Graziano. Archaic and fascinating issue. Lightly toned with warm hues. Good VF.
