Description

Sicily. Lilybaeum (as Cape of Melqart). AR Tetradrachm, c. 360-330 BC. Obv. Charioteer wearing long chiton, driving fast quadriga right, holding reins and kentron; above, Nike flying left, crowning charioteer with open wreath held in both hands; in exergue, traces of Punic legend Ršmlqrt. Rev. Head of Arethousa right, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earring, and pearl necklace; four dolphins swimming around. HGC 2 741; Jenkins, CPS I, 66, 48. AR. 16.43 g. 24.00 mm. A choice example, in very good condition for issue, brilliant and lightly toned. Good VF.
