Description

Greek Italy. Northern Apulia, Teate. AR Diobol, c. 325-275 BC. Obv. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet. Rev. Herakles fighting the Nemean lion; uncertain symbol to right. Cf. Vlasto 1408-10 (Tarentum) var. (symbol); Cf. HN Italy 697 var. (same). AR. 1.16 g. 12.00 mm. RRR. Apparently unpublished. Brilliant and lightly toned, with light golden hues. VF. An hypothetical attribution, suggested by the dies style : cf. Roma Numismatics 47, 2018, 30 ex Monsieur Note (1910-1982) Collection, France.
