Description

C. Cassius Longinus. AE Dodrans, 126 BC. D/ Draped bust of Vulcan right, wearing laurel-wreathed cap; thongs over left shoulder; behind, S and three pellets. R/ C. CASSI. Prow right; before, S and three pellets; below, ROMA. Cr. 266/2; B. 2. AE. g. 14.87 mm. 28.50 RR. Very rare and seldom offered. Earthen dark green patina, with brown spots. VF. The Dorans (a contraction of Latin "dequadrans": less a quarter), valued at three quarters of an as (nine unciae), was produced only twice: in 127 BC by Caecilius Metellus and in 126 BC by C. Cassius Longinus.
