New South Wales, Australia. Lot of 3 proofs, All from the Bank of New South Wales, Includes: 9.5 x 5 inch Proof, First Exchange draft payable at The National Bank of Ireland, Black text, Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom at top center, Fine condition; Matching 9.5 x 5 inch Third Exchange payable at the Bank of New South Wales in XF condition with some staining at left margin; and a 10.5 x 3.5 inch Proof check, Pink text with pink undertint, company logo at left, Fine condition with damage to margins as well as some staining. 3 pieces. The Bank of New South Wales (BNSW), also known commonly as The Wales, was the first bank in Australia, being established in Sydney in 1817 and situated on Broadway. During the 19th century, the bank opened branches throughout Australia and New Zealand, expanding into Oceania in the 20th century. It merged with many other financial institutions, finally merging with the Commercial Bank of Australia in 1982, and was renamed to the Westpac Banking Corporation later that year. (3)
