LEVANTINE MARBLE CYLINDER SEAL - ORIGINAL LAMBERT REPORT
Ca. 2600 - 2400 BC A Levantine white marble cylinder seal. The engraved surface is divided in two registers by a banded leaf-pattern. In the upper register is a large central plant and a pair of creatures with crossing bodies. The animals depicted are a goat facing the tree and a bird-headed quadruped facing away. In the lower register, there is a contest frieze with a standing hero and a horned animal. Accompanied by a signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.

Provenance: Property of a London gallery; formerly with a Mayfair Art dealer S.A.; Ex. 1990s London collections, studied and catalogued by professor Lambert in the early 90s (with original note, signed by him). Previously in an old British collection formed since the 1960s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
